Show Your Children the Meaning of Education

Whenever I buy my children school supplies I make sure to spare no ex pens e in getting them very high quality stuff. There’s a hidden meaning when you do that. You demonstrate to your children that their education is one of the most important things they will ever receive.

So many people grew up not appreciating what education has done for them. My children, Lara and James, know that all their teachers and schoolwork assignments are a wonderful thing. Even when I buy them pens, I make sure to buy them writing implements that have a special quality of beauty and refinement. You have to remember that people learn as much by the things they use as anything else. What does it say if you give your child the cheapest school supplies there are?

We should all be more supportive of education. I know James and Lara are getting that message as young people, which makes me proud as a father.

There is a somewhat new way that physical therapy works. Some patients get to do some of their therapy using a wii game system. A physical therapy assistant and physical therapist are supporting the patient while the patient plays the game. The game they play forces muscles in their body to do what they are supposed to do. It doesn’t feel like they are really doing therapy because they get wrapped up into the game. The therapist can tell it isn’t just a game because they need to help the patient to balance. But even the therapist is seeing the game help the patient and to some extent forgetting the work they’re doing. This is one good thing that came out of owning a wii. They are expensive, but they are used in a lot of therapy along side of a therapist. It sort of depends upon which game you play as to how much help the therapy is.

While most colleges are safe and most have campus police available as well, you might still be worried about campus safety, especially if you are female. Here are some ideas for staying safe.

- An online college is great way to stay safe, seeing as how you can take classes from the comfort of your home.

- Try not to walk alone on campus if you can help it. If you are walking alone, stay in well-lit areas, and avoid back trails, untraveled walkways and dark areas.

- Try to park close to the building and minimize your walk at night.

- If you do have to walk alone a lot, carry mace or pepper spray or if you are allowed to then pack a taser. If none of these are viable then carry a persona alarm on your key chain.

- For dorm safety make sure that your smoke alarms are functional.

- If you don’t live on the bottom floor, buy an emergency rope ladder that can attach to your windows to climb out of.

- On your cell phone create an entry called ICE (In Case of Emergency) and list your emergency contact numbers. Most police and rescue works know to look for this number on phones.
